His Legacy

I first met Fr. Mottet in 2010 at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Davenport, IA. This was to be my first ever Healing Mass. I had never met Fr. Mottet before and didn't know what he looked like or much about him. There were several priests hearing confession before mass. As I sat praying and waiting for mass to begin, I heard the door to one of the confessionals close. There was something special about this priest. He seemed to emit an energy that I'd not experienced before. It was Fr. Mottet! In the months and years to come, I relied on him to hear my confessions, offer advice and to pray with me. I read every book he suggested and as a result of meeting him, I fell back in love with the Catholic Church and found a new hope for an ongoing and seemingly undiagnosable disease. He was one of the few people at that time that listened and believed me when I shared my fears and frustrations. He left me feeling heard! He assured me that Jesus heard me just as he had and that I could talk with Him in just the same way. That was my first step to healing. The physical and spiritual healing continues to this day. As I get stronger, I am inspired to be that caring ear for others who need to be heard. I coordinate the Healing Mass at my parish and ask Fr. Mottet to guide me helping the people I meet. I try to offer deep listening and hope that people leave feeling heard just as Fr. Mottet left me feeling heard. We always pray together, "Jesus I Trust in You", just as Fr. taught me. I love Fr. Mottet and am so grateful he was in my life. Helped me grow closer to Jesus at a very uncertain time and his wise counsel still influences me today.
